What is SOD in Infor M3?
When working with Infor M3, you have to be able to document that your users don’t have conflicting functions, like being able to both change customer records and approve customer payments. The only way to document this is through a SOD analysis.

Handle SOD in seconds
The SOD module comes with ready-made SOD rules to get you started right away. It automatically scans and flags conflicting M3 functions and keeps track of all violations so you can take action immediately.
SOD Rules: Why do they matter?
Running a SOD analysis means going through all the functions in M3 and deciding which ones are compatible and which ones are not. This is an enormous task.
We have done this job for you, and our SOD rules are tried and tested by many of our customers. By using our preloaded rules, you can lean back and know that you are safe and compliant.

About Vince
Vince helps companies get more from their Infor ERP, through our platform, a workflow engine that connects Infor ERP with other systems, with four modules sitting on top of it.
-
How does the Vince Platform work?
The platform is the enabler. It is a workflow engine that moves data between Infor ERP and other systems, including third-party applications. If a tool has an API, Vince can most likely connect to it.
Four modules sit on top of the platform:
- Excel add-in: view and manage ERP data in Excel from a simple sidebar, and write changes back.
- Compliance (SoD): automatically find and flag conflicting functions, so customers stay compliant and secure.
- E-invoicing (Peppol): automate and monitor invoices and other business documents in real time.
- AI App Builder: combine Vince workflows, tables and an AI generated frontend into apps in minutes.
-
What does Vince do for SyteLine customers?
SyteLine customers can utilize the functionalities of the platform and modules just like other Infor customers. However, the most common request from SyteLine users so far is an alternative to Infor's ETL tool, and the platform already solves it. Vince moves data out of Infor Data Lake into the systems customers use, such as Power BI, SQL databases, SharePoint or SFTP. From there, customers can add more modules on the same platform whenever they need them.
-
How is the platform set up?
Each customer gets its own tenant on the same Vince Platform. The workflow engine is identical for everyone, and features bolt on top when the customer needs them. A customer can start with data sync and grow into other modules without a new integration project.
Data Lake and Power BI
-
Can Vince get SyteLine data from Data Lake into Power BI?
Yes. Infor has no native connector from Data Lake to Power BI today. Vince reads from Data Lake and writes into the customer's Power BI storage, for example Azure. The customer creates the target tables, and Vince handles the initial load and the ongoing sync. This is already running for SyteLine customers.
-
How does the sync work?
Vince uses delta polling on Data Lake. The customer chooses which tables to read and how often. Vince uses the Compass APIs and the Data Lake timestamp (infor.compasstimestamp()) to pull only what has changed. It stores the last timestamp, so a failed run picks up where it stopped.
-
Does the target have to be Azure?
No. One configurable setup covers every customer, whatever their storage looks like. Supported targets include:
- Anything HTTP based, such as REST and SOAP APIs, Microsoft 365, SharePoint and OneDrive
- S3 compatible storage
- Cloud databases on Azure, AWS, Google Cloud and DigitalOcean
- SQL, socket and SFTP, including a dedicated SFTP server per tenant on request
-
What about on-prem targets?
On-prem uses the same protocols as the cloud. Calls come from a Vince static IP, shared or dedicated to one tenant (dedicated has an extra charge). For proprietary solutions, ask Vince and we assess them case by case.
-
How does Vince compare on cost with Infor's ETL tool?
As far as our knowledge goes, Vince comes in well below Infor's ETL subscription, even where customers get discounted Infor pricing. Infor doesn't publish its pricing, so we compare against the customer's own quote
-
How often should data sync?
It's configurable per table, so daily or several times a day both work. In the cloud, smaller and more frequent batches usually run better, and the right frequency depends on how many transactions the customer produces.
-
How long does setup take?
Standard data sync with SyteLine customers takes a few working days. Transformation work adds some time for training and getting up to speed.
-
How long does setup take?
Standard data sync with SyteLine customers takes a few working days. Transformation work adds some time for training and getting up to speed.
-
Can we start before go-live?
Yes. Vince can set up a flow on the customer's test environment and point it at a test Azure database. The reports are then ready when live data arrives.
-
Can Vince pull from more than SyteLine?
Yes. Any source with an API or a database connection works, so a customer can combine SyteLine with data from a legacy ERP in the same flow.
-
We want to add more tables to add to the sync, can we do that ourselves?
Yes, we provide documentation on how to do it. We can also guide you through the process, it is quite simple and fast to do.
-
How does the system handle tables that already has millions of rows and is updated very frequently?
We have workflows to handle “initial load” (syncing all existing data) of tables separately. There are also workflows to handle tables with a lot of updates.
Security, access and permissions
-
Does the customer have to open their environment to the internet?
No. Vince offers a static IP, either shared across tenants or dedicated to one tenant. The customer opens the firewall to that one known IP and nothing else. This works for databases, SFTP and internal HTTP services, which also covers EDI and flat file hosting.
-
What permissions does Vince need?
Read and upsert rights are enough for ongoing sync. Creating tables needs higher rights, so by default the customer creates the target tables themselves.
-
Does the customer need a license to connect an S3 bucket?
Not from Vince. Vince only needs an access key and secret. For a bucket the customer owns in their own AWS account, that is all it takes. For an Infor supplied bucket, getting those credentials may require Infor console access, which sits on Infor's side.
-
Does Vince put load on live SyteLine tables?
No. Vince pulls bulk and BI data from Data Lake, not from the live system. The SyteLine REST APIs are only used for small interactive cases, like a technician's task list for the day.
Custom fields, transformation and self service
-
Are new custom fields picked up automatically?
Partly. Once a new field reaches Data Lake, the standard query includes it with no extra work. Customers can also update their own custom queries. Vince doesn't create new target columns automatically today, but a schema sync can handle it when the database user has permission to alter the target table. Getting the field from SyteLine into Data Lake still happens on Infor's side.
-
Can Vince transform data before it lands?
Yes. Vince can run custom queries, apply filters (for example to exclude test data or a division), rename target tables and run transformation workflows. It can also pass data through untouched
-
Can customers manage it without Vince or a partner?
Yes. Customers configure tables, frequency, filters and custom queries themselves, and Vince monitors the infrastructure. If a customer only uses the data sync, it just runs. For partners, this means fewer support hours spent on routine changes
-
Can Vince do joins, lookups and calculated fields before the data reaches Power BI?
Yes, as a separate step in the platform after extraction. Examples are joining tables, adding fields from other sources, or a lookup that maps a delivery address to a freight zone. Very large volumes with many lookups may call for a different approach, so Vince reviews those case by case.
-
Is it SQL?
No. Transformations use a JSON based language, similar to what XSLT is for XML. People with a SQL background usually pick it up quickly. Customers can send an example query, and Vince shows how it translates.
-
Should logic go in Data Lake queries or in Vince?
Filters and simple joins in the Data Lake query are fine. Heavy joins and complex logic there use more Infor compute, which counts against the customer's Data Lake allowance
EDI, Peppol and BODs
-
Can Vince act as an EDI translation partner?
Yes. Vince can handle ANSI X12, EDIFACT and flat files over SFTP. Vince is also a registered Peppol access point, with invoices and the full document chain running in production.
-
Does Vince work with Infor BODs?
Yes. Vince Platform works well with various Infor BOD integrations. We’ve got dozens if not hundreds of production workflows running ranging from everything between Item Master via Shipments to Invoice BODs.
-
Is this proven on SyteLine?
Not yet. Our EDI, Peppol and BOD experience comes from M3 customers. We'd like to prove it on SyteLine through a pilot with a partner, and BOD heavy areas like Enterprise Quoting are a natural place to start.
REST APIs
-
Should apps pull live data through the REST APIs?
Only for small, interactive use, like a technician's task list for the day or similar real-time or live data needs. Bulk and BI data should come from Data Lake. Apps can also use REST APIs to take action and report back actions to SyteLine or other Infor products such as IDM.
-
Which SyteLine customers are the best fit?
Customers who already use Power BI and want SyteLine data in it. Customers paying for Infor's ETL tool, especially those who rely on a partner for every schema change. Customers worried about opening their environment for EDI or flat file hosting. (Yet to have any Syteline user implement a module, but we believe they also can provide value, similar to the M3 market.)
AppSyteLSyteLinneSyteLineel add-in
-
Is the Vince Excel add-in the same as Infor's?
No. Infor's add-in queries Data Lake and brings the results into Excel. The Vince add-in runs workflows, so users can read data, edit it in Excel and write it back into the ERP (Excel add-in).
-
What is App Builder?
App Builder lets users describe the app they need, and AI generates the interface on the spot. The business logic and permissions stay in the ERP, so apps run inside the existing environment instead of becoming a separate IT project. Customers use it for things like approval flows, task lists and screens for specific roles (App Builder).
-
Can we build operational dashboards alongside Power BI?
Yes. Data can be stored in indexed tables on the platform for instant search, filtering and aggregation. Through the SyteLine IDOs, users can also act from the app, for example on late orders or on manufacturing orders missing parts. This adds to Power BI rather than replacing it.
-
What do partners get out of it?
Your customers get a lower-cost route to their data, and you spend fewer hours on routine support because customers can make changes themselves. Vince handles the platform and infrastructure, so you keep the customer relationship.
